چکیده
objective prader-willi syndrome (pws) is a genetic syndrome presenting with severe hypotonia and decreased agility. growth hormone (gh), which is often used in these patients to treat short stature and obesity, seems improve hypotonia, physical strength, activity, and locomotor developmental ability. the aim of this study was to find the effects of growth hormone on agility and strength of these patients. material & methods in a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial in an out-patient pediatric endocrine clinic in tehran, 21 pws children (12 boys and 9 girls, 4 to 9 years old) were divided into either gh-treated or control groups and followed for two years. agility run, sit ups, weight lifting, and inspiratory and expiratory strength were considered as the main outcome measures. results all the outcome measures of the gh treated group showed a significant improvement compared to the control group. conclusion gh causes a significant improvement in agility and strength of pws children.

Growth hormone therapy in children with Prader-Willi syndrome.
Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a chromosomal disorder and growth failure is a common presentation. Growth hormone (GH) treatment is beneficial in PWS although the optimal age for starting GH is unknown. We investigated whether GH response in PWS was associated with the age of GH commencement by comparing 16 children who commenced GH before 3 years of age (early group) with 40 children who comme...

OBJECTIVE To study the effect of growth hormone (GH) treatment (2-4 months) on insulin action in adipocytes isolated from children with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS), in whom GH deficiency appears to be a primary defect. We investigated the complex effects of GH on carbohydrate metabolism, as part of a current clinical trial of GH treatment in children with PWS. METHODS Biopsies of subcutaneous...

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare multisystem genetic disorder demonstrating great variability with changing clinical features during patient's life. It is characterized by severe hypotonia with poor sucking and feeding difficulties in early infancy, followed by excessive eating and gradual development of morbid obesity in later infancy or early childhood. The phenotype is most probably due...

OBJECTIVES To determine the effect of growth hormone (GH) on body composition and motor development in infants and toddlers with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). STUDY DESIGN Twenty-nine subjects with PWS (4-37 months of age) were randomized to GH treatment (1mg/m 2 /day) or observation for 12 months. Percent body fat, lean body mass, and bone mineral density were measured by dual x-ray absorptio...

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is characterized by hyperphagia, obesity if food intake is not strictly controlled, abnormal body composition with decreased lean body mass and increased fat mass, decreased basal metabolic rate, short stature, low muscle tone, cognitive disability, and hypogonadism. In addition to improvements in linear growth, the benefits of growth hormone therapy on body composit...
متن کاملEffect of growth hormone on bone fragility in patients with Prader-Willi syndrome scoliosis
Objective Patients with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is known to have bone fragility. Osteoporosis may be associated with bone fractures and poor surgical outcome for scoliosis. Current growth hormone (GH) treatment offers a viable and safe means to reduce these risks by improving bone density. The purposes of this study were to investigate bone mineral density (BMD) with PWS patients and to ver...
